Snowshoeing the Abbey Pond Trail

On Saturday, March 1, 2008 Carole and Jay Furr snowshoed the Abbey Pond trail in the Green Mountain National Forest east of Middlebury, Vermont.   Following a blazed but not-well-trodden trail up to the ridgeline, they turned back a fifth of a mile short of the Pond proper.   Deep snow, freshly fallen, will do that to you, good snowshoes or not.

Carole poses on the footbridge, a fifth of the way up.

Carole continues on across.

Jay wanders around on top of the ridge.

Jay comes back from his wandering.

Carole heads back down from the ridgeline.

Jay, thoroughly warm from the day's exercise, poses at the National Forest boundary, near the parking area.
